friday five: the clothes don't make the woman

Sally at RevGals has us thinking about wardrobe:

1. Are you a hoarder, or are you good at sorting and clearing?
Yes! I fall into the “hope springs eternal” category when I no longer fit into my clothes, and I retain them for that anticipated day when I will fit into them again. But I also purge on a regular basis, and am coming to terms with the fact that some clothes will never fit again. There’s a yard sale coming… and Goodwill is a regular beneficiary of my purges.

2. What is the oddest garment you possess and why?
My academic hood. Whoever designed this beast? At least the colors in it are attractive (that rich divinity red and the university blue).

When I first read this question I thought it said, "what is the oldest garment..." and I can answer that! A kilt I had made in my family tartan (MacKinnon) when I was in Scotland my junior year in college. That was 1978! I won't ever fit into it again, but I won't part with it.

3. Do you have a favourite look/ colour?
Favorite look, no. At my present size I’m all about comfort and not feeling embarrassed by my attire. I used to enjoy looking “professional” when I was 50 pounds lighter, but now… My wardrobe is full of black-and-fill-in-the-blank: a professional hazard! But I tend toward blue for casual. Until a foot injury made wearing them impossible, I lived in clogs.

4. Thrift/ Charity shops, love them or hate them?
When clothes leave the house in bags they head to Goodwill, but I often don’t think to shop there. I’m not opposed, but I don’t often find what I want/need when I shop there, so it simply isn’t on my radar.

5. Money is no object, what one item would you buy?
Whatever I needed next in good quality.

love the picture, great play, I do understand the difficulty with the professional look, esp with a few extra pounds...

We were able to rent our academic hood etc, but had it not been so...I am pretty sure I'd still have it.

On a side note: Love the new (at least to me since I've missed several Friday Fives) header pic.

Wow, I wouldn't part with that kilt either if I were you!

I still wear a kilt every now and again--but recently thought more self-conscious about it. It would be cool to have one from a family name, even though women didn't traditionally wear them. :)

The weight issue is why I love linen tops and crop pants these days--ideal for such a climate in TX and baggy and comfortable for me.

I bought the academic hood for my M.Div but not for my MSW...was really tempted, the MSW is shades of pink - how cool is that!

so, that would have been my oddest - but alas I answered it "oldest" not oddest...sigh
